Normally I have been able to solve most things by observing the forum's here but this one has me beat. So beat I've summoned the courage to log on. It seems to be the same problem as the current epidemic.
I am running XP SP2, up to date with everything.
I have been getting internet explorer opening with a variety os sites for several days. One early one was WinFixer but many others since. I've been stopping them by adding them to the hosts file as new ones arrive.
I had NAV and AdAware and they were not able to fix it. Since then I added Spyware Doctor and that which cleared up some stuff but didn't fix the problem. The Microsoft problem found some other spyware. Eventually, I strarted getting the blue screen crash unless I was in safemode (which won't load unless I select safemode with networking). I hope I haven't killed some critical file.
I've been through all of the processes you advise.
Most things found nothing but the Ewido scan found Spyware.Look2Me in many DLLs.

I hope you can help. I've just travelled to the other side of the world for a week to do some writing and this is destroying the whole thing.
I am worried that Spyware.Look2Me may not be the primary problem and may have got in after something else compromised the system. I think it started when I opened a WinRar file that had a piece of software that broke AVIs into bitmap frames.
Thank you all for all of your efforts.
Richard.
