Spysheriff....i got part of it [CLOSED]

Well first of all i am new here and I tried to follow all of the stepps that are required but i all of my scanners and programs say there is no virus or trojan. My problem started when I downloaded a game and as soon as I opened it, boom my screen turned blue and a messeage saying "SPYWARE INFECTION" and some other stuff there appeared. Then some spyware program tried to go in my computer it was called spysheriff and it was constantly asking me for permission to upgrade and all that. I thought it was too fishy so I looked in the internet for that name and i was trying to look if this was any true some messeage was constantly telling me that i had spyware and that i should use some kind of spyware removal tool, but still it all was too weird so i decided to erase all that spysheriff and denied to use that tool so i denied it permission to upgrade. and suddenly everything started working fine except for the messeage. Then I used the Scotty patrol and erased that messeage saying i had spyware bugging me constantly. Then I used my AVG Anti Virus to look for more things and it said that I had 11 viruses but that it couldn't do anything to solved them cause they were in my system something like that. I think my programs got rid of the viruses the worst but my screen is still blue with the messeage and i can't change my background settings. I am asking for someone to take a look at my problem I please help me out in anything that is possible. Thanks Peter

Please download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident

Run HijackThis

Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

Hello, peter_ht86.

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.
  • Please download LSPFix from here.
  • Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
  • Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  • In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of newdotnet3_88.dll
  • Select every instance of newdotnet3_88.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  • When you are done click Finish>>.
Then download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Delete C:\Program Files\winupdates

Then open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

In the KEEP box there are three files MSWSOCK.DLL, WINRNR.DLL, and RSVPSP.DLL and that newdotnet3_88.dll is already in the REMOVE box do i continue with the process???

Hello, peter_ht86.

Please open Hijackthis, scan, and place a checkmark by the following entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto

Close all open windows/browsers and click Fix Checked.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\secure32.html
C:\Program Files\winupdates
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SurfDashAdminDupe\FordLink.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SurfDashAdminDupe

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

i have a problem with rebooting my computer i been trying this for i don't know how many times but i just don't get to get it on safe mode pressing F8 before the windows starts.......is there another way to go into safe mode??? cause i don't know what the problem is i did it yesterday!!

Hello, peter_ht86.

Make sure you start tapping F8 right after you turn on your computer, and keep tapping it until either you see windows loading, or you get the safe mode screen.

Additonally, you can also try F5 as well.

In the meantime, here are modified instructions.

1) Please download the Killbox.

ok ok thanks i got it to start in safe mode a couple of minutes ago and i did the KILLBOX thing and i think everything that i put on the box is deleted but i still can't change my background so the problem is still there do u want for me to do another HIJACKTHIS.

You still can't change your background? SmitREM should have restored/delete the registry keys Spysherrif modified.

Yes, please post back a fresh Hijackthis log.

Also, download WindPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

Hello, peter_ht86.

Your registry entries pointing to your wallpaper look fine as well. Is it possible it works again after rebooting?

On your desktop, right click on a blank space and hit Properties.

Press Alt+Print Screen on the properties dialog that opens up and paste it in paint using Ctrl+V
(Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint)

Please post it back as an attachment.
