It shouldn't affect the PC, the critical ones are needed for security etc

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up then disc defragmenter

You can run defrag as often as you like, running it every couple of weeks is good

If you cannot find SP2 and update does not offer it, get it on CD and re-install it

i actually do have malware and am currently working on getting rid of it but thats not where the problem started the problem started because i needed to register the program in order to use it (microsoft movie maker) and i didn't have any upc code cause it came with the comp so i decided to dl the microsoft movie maker 2 and i can't get it past the installer and now i'm looking for the media maker so i don't think malware is the problem though i could be wrong

It will be better to wait till the malware is gone because it will affect any changes you try now
