i can't install anything

i cannot install windows media player 10 for my os10 system. um. it downloads to the desktop but does not install. this happens with a lot of things. what do you guys think could be the problem.

i'm not too computer savvy.

ok to get things straight, after you download the file to your desktop, did you double click on the file to run it? If so, what is the error message?

there is no error messge. it just opens itunes and nothing happens. one thing told me to download stuffit expander so i'm going to try that now.
