Please give me any information you have on what a local area connection is. It's showing up as an icon at the bottom of one of our computers with the message 100.0 mbps, connecting. Has someone added something to their workstation? What is it for?

Sometimes used for broadband connections.

A more common use is to plug the computer into a router which then shares the broadband connection across all computers connnected to it.
