Hi everyone

I am trying to install the win xp on a laptop. at some point it pushes the CD out. It is riving me mad. Can anyone help. I also have a external CD ROM can i use that to install the win?

Please reply if you know anything at all

is this an original xp cd? or a copy?

it is a copy of my original. My original CD is broken I have a copy of it. Do you think that is the problem...

I doubt very much that the copy you are trying to install with is going to work. You may have to purchase a new retail version of XP. Alternatively, you might contact your computer's manufacturer and see if they will send you a replacement CD.

you may also be able to get one directly from microsoft....though...that's a pretty hard thing to do

got a floppy drive on that laptop?

Use a windows 98 boot disk and remove all partitions. Then create a partition and format at fat32.

Next make a directory on the drive with
md install

then copy the entire contents of the i386 directory from your cd to a that folder with the command

copy d:\i386\*.* c:\install

finally, try running install from the drive

c:\install\winnt

I dont have a floppy drive..

My University alows me to get a new copy of xp I just downloaded it
