My browser repeatedly stops responding. I check the internet
connection and it's still active. It will load pages fine for a while
(time varies - but usually it won't last for more than 10 minutes)
then when a link is clicked, the browser just stops responding. I was using IE and sbc browser
then switched to Mozilla Firefox, but the problem occurs on both browsers
The only way I can rectify this is by re-booting. It works fine for a while
then stops again.I've run Spybot and Ad-Aware and ca virus check and stinger
with the latest versions possible.
I have windows xp running sbc dsl

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

I updated to sp2 heres my new log

You're lucky your system still boots up. A lot of times when you install service pack 2 while still infected you come across more problems than you started with. That's why I asked to have you install Service Pack 1. Oh well. Lets clean up what you got.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.
Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

I don't see anything malicious in here. I guess that's why SP2 installed ok for you. Whew... Lucky break there. Anyways let me know if the problem still persists. I think it will. I'm not sure why though. Try this if it still happens.

Click "Start", "Run", and type sfc /scannow (make sure to have 1 space between sfc and /scannow) click "OK". Make sure to have your Windows XP Setup Cd handy. After that's done reboot and try again, let me know how things are working.

Please run a free online virus scan here: Needs to be run with Internet Explorer.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm

And a free trojan scan here: (you will have to download the 30 day trial of "The Cleaner" here)
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC. Post a new log.

I had the exact same problem and just fixed it by removing Zone Alarm.

I have the same problem but with Windows XPSP2 already installed, Norton2002 updated, an Norton Internet Security 2002.
If you say uninstalling Zone Alarm make your problem go away, I'm gonna try the same with NIS and comment about it later.
