Hi Joan. Can you give me a new log and a silent runners log? :tazz:

* Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Please Download CoolWebShredder, from http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=17 , Extract it & run the program. Click the Next Button & let it scan. Make sure you let it fix all CWS Remnants.

Please set your system to show
all hidden files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all programs and all windows, leaving only HijackThis running. Please disconnect from the internet. Place a check mark against each of the following, making sure you get each one and not any others by mistake:

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winspl32.dll
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\<<this folder

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Please reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look to see how we did.

OK, I followed your instructions. I had a little trouble with winspl32.dll. It wasn't in the folder (although there was a win32spl.dll) I ran the killbox on it, the first time it gave me something that seemed wrong, unfortunately I neglected to write it down, but when I tried it again to see what the message said, it said it couldn't find it, so I guess that means it worked... I hope. Other than that it went fine (although my net was disconnected after the reboot, a simple repair cured it). Probably more detail than you need. Anyway thanks for all your help. Here's the new HijackThis log

End results: I can't really tell whether I'm fixed or not. I have a three plus year old dell, 256MB Ram, so it's not surprising that it lags a little/ a lot and the CPU is occasionally up at 100%. Firefox seems to be working a lot better now (I've only had it self replicate on the task bar once) and it's been freezing/ dissappearing/ crashing a lot less, that may just be 1.5 though. Theres still a 5 second lag everytime I try to click into Word, but I've been using OpenOffice so thats not a big deal. The only thing I'm really worried about is whether my iPod is still in danger. I only have five days left on my warranty so I don't want to fry it again. Is it ok to plug it in or should I not risk it?

In the meantime, I'll keep running spybot, ewido, etc. regularly.

Based on the log I posted last night, do I look clean? If so, what else can I do to speed up my comp till I can afford to replace it with a nice speedy mac (probably not til Summer)?

I really don't know much about the frying issue of your IPOD.

Norton is known as a resource hog.

You can check these in hijack this to speed up your computer. It doesn't delete the programs, it just allows your computer to boot up much more quickly.

Thanks. The iPod's been working better already (although I extended my warranty just in case)... I'll definately remove those files, anything I can do to speed up my comp will help.

Since you're using the IPOD, you probably have songs stored on your computer. that may be slowing things down as well. '

Here is a great tutorial on some things you can do to make your ocmputer more efficient.
