dear guys,
i need urgent help in figuring if there are 14000, records, how much computer backing storage (what size of a back up system) would you recommend should be purchased, making due allowances for furture expansion

Going to need a bit more information on this one. What type of database are we talking about? And what type of back-up storage device are you looking for? Also, how much do you plan to expand in the future?
