I have a friend using Compaq presario and W98, Have a lexmark X73 printer copier and after every boot I have to go back to the support site to download and reinstall the drivers for the printer. After installing it works fine until she shuts down and reboots. the the error message is " Cant communicate with printer" :D <_<

Are there any other printers installed on this system? Lexmark is known to have problems communicating when other drivers are installed.

It's likely there's a printer driver that wasn't completely removed (not uncommon).

1. If it's known what printers have been installed on this system, you could try downloading and installing drivers for those printers, and then using uninstall to remove them.

2. There's a slim chance that regclean may remove an invalid key: http://www.majorgeek...ownload458.html

3. If your comfortable editing the registry you could view the win.ini and sys.ini looking for printer references, and then try and locate and remove the keys from the registry.

4. Finally, there's the dreaded reformat and reinstall.
