Starting this past week every time I turn on my computer I get a small window that comes up saying that Norton autoprotect is disabled due to a driver error. It says to restart but restarting does not help it.

When I open Norton it says that autoprotect is enabled, yet, there is a red X over the icon in the startup tray saying that it is not.

I have tried running a virus scan with norton in safemode and it didn't detect a virus. The virus scanning itself seems fine, it is autoprotect that refuses to work.

Do I need to uninstall then reinstall Norton? I am clueless.

Hi. If Norton auto protect is disabled, I suspect it is due to virus/malware. I have been running Norton for a long time. It happened to me once and I opened a case up with thier support. They are the ones that told me it is a virus/malware. You can run some other scans to find it. As I recall, I used the free on line scan at Trendmicro.com and got it fixed on my own. Go here for their scan http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp

I ran Trendmicro and it came up with nothing. I ran spybot search and destroy and it came up with:

Windows Security Center.AntiVirusDisableNotify:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusDisableNotify!=dword:0

I ran ad-aware, and CWshredder and they came up with nothing. It has to be that one malware that spybot came up with. However, spybot is not removing it.

I am going to try the rest of the programs from http://www.geekstogo...?showtopic=2852. If none of those fix it then I will do a Hijackthis and post it in the correct forum.

Thank you for your help.
