Hi

Everything started like 5 days ago, I was trying to use 1ClickDVD software and I got some errors about the hardware layer not present. I’ve been using this program for a while and it was the first time I saw this error. First, I thought it was a patin couffin driver problems, so I uninstall and re-install again, but nothing. After different tests, I decided to have a look at the hardware settings and it was when I found the Device Manager list was empty. After look for a while in Internet I found that malware programs can be one of the possible causes for this. Also Zone Alarm firewall has been alerting me about some very weird program trying to connect to internet. Usually the name is conform by funny characters as $!&.exe, {@|.exe etc . Another thing I have noted is windows taking ages when I try to open “My Computer”.

I have been all the day today following all the steps in “You must read this …” but unfortunately still the device manager is not showing anything at all. Below is the log from Hijack This. I hope someone can help me out as I’m very close to format my hard disk :tazz: .

Thanks in advance
Javico

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Preventative Measures
This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read How Did I Get Infected In The First Place?.

Also Consider...
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 4 free ones available for personal use:How is she running now? Any further problems? If not, Good work, and Happy Computing!

Hi Skate

Thanks a lot for your time and help, I believe that “time” is something very important so I really appreciated a lot all the support and help I have received from you.

Relating to my PC, two things …

First, after follow all the instructions in your emails, I managed to get back my list of devices in the device manager. Also the speed of my computer was a lot better.

Second, I have a confession to make, last weekend after read your last answer and have a look to the article How Did I Get Infected In The First Place, I decided to do a fresh start, so I re-format my hard disk and I have been installing all the programs which are mentioned in the site (SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuad, ZoneAlarm, WinPatrol, etc). I have been using e-donkey for a while so I presume this was the source from which I got my pc contaminated.

Once more, thanks a lot for all your help and time, I would really recommend geektogo site to all my friends.
