HL2 deathmatch and CSS annoyance

I keep having times in half life 2 deathmatch and css where the game freezes for like a second or 2, or there is very jerky movement. It's really annoying. I'm sure it's not lag as my ping is usally around 30. I tried the cl_smooth 0 command too but it still does it.

Have you tried turning down the gfx settings a little bit, and is the internet connection speed set in the steam options correct if set to high your PC will be sent more information than it can handle at its speed.

It also does This sometimes after freezing for a second or 2.

I've noticed that when it happens my ping goes really high monetarily. WHy would it do this?

Its usually a combination of server lag and your machine not having enough power available at that moment.
