Hi all

I'm a total newbie here - hope someone can help me:-)

I have a laptop running XP. I generally run it wireless, acessing the internet via my Emac, which has an internal router. My wireless card is a D-Link DWL 650+.

A coupl eof weeks ago, I noticed that if I was browsing the net using IE, it would drop out after a few minutes. Re-boot and I can browse again, but only for a few minutes again. Closing IE and reopening didn't fix it.

I though it might be the browser, so I downloaded Firefox, but it behaves exactly the same. MSN Messenger runs throughout, even if th ebrowser has stopped.

Not sure about email, since I don't use my laptop for email.

I then though it might be a wireless problem, so I connected the laptop straight to the modem. Same problem.

So I'm stumped! I'm loath to reinstall XP, because that's going to cost me to pay someone to do it, since I don't have any means of storing all my data while I re-install.

Any ideas anyone? :tazz:

Many thanks

Philip

Re my last

Someone suggested I reduce the MTU setting, which I did, down to 1200. Still no change. I've also run Spybot and SpyBouncer, cleaned everything up, but to no avail

I had the same problem and found that if I removed Zone Alarm it fixed the problem. I had to remove it completely though. Hope this helps.

I'm having the exact problem-- I don't want to reinstall Windows (I'm using 98) for your reason, and it doesn't seem to make sense because everything else is working fine. It doesn't even seem to be a IE problem, since Firefox/Netscape/Opera won't work either. I too did a scan, turned up empty.

I have a cable connection.... but Comcast says everything's fine on their end.
Maybe someone can suggest something--have been reading this forum and a number of us are having this problem.

Btw,
I just deleted Zonealarm, as the other post suggested, that didn't work. Though...when I tried to run "uninstall Zonealarm", it went berserk and kept adding ~gl*.tmp files. Ended up deleting the folder, the shortcut, etc.

Hi

The problem was with Zonealarm. If you copy the exact error message into google, you shoudl end up in the Zonealarm forum, which told me how to fix it. it was rather complicated, but it worked in the end. So now I'm back up and running, AND with Zonealarm.

Hope that helps, if I could remember the exact message in their forum I would send you there, but I'm afraid I can't :-(

YOU ARE RIGHT LOL!

I thought it wasn't ZoneAlarm, because I deleted any trace of ZA (I thought?).

Just decided to go over there and do a clean install, and I am still connected to the internet.

Perhaps a more experienced person can tell us why, but I'm wondering if it's not that my ISP provider reset their DNS servers/connection and ZA didn't realize it?
