external dvd-rom not recognised

Hello again,

hoping someone can help me, i have a pioneer dvd-rom that i wanted to attach externally to my laptop. the external enclosure i purchased is a sum e vision genesys gl811. when i attach it to my laptop new hardware is found but device manager shows it as a disk drive, usb device next to my harddrive and nothing is showing in my computer under removable devices. iam running windows xp home with service pack 1, iv'e looked at the bios sttings and see nothing that can be changed to enable this can anyone help me please. :tazz:
