Hello this is my first time posting on this website. I am being plauged by Malware of some sort that redirects me to Morwillsearch.com and other various sites, including those of a very discusting and offensive nature, whenever I try to hyperlink to a site through a yahoo search. Here is my Hijackthis list:

I'm not very good at dealing with things of this matter without the aid of a virus or spyware scanner and none of them can detect or remove whatever is causing the problem. Also if you happen to know what websites are target areas for contracting this type of Malware that would be extremely helpful and would help me determine if I need to limit the access of the other users of the computer in the house. Thank you for your time.

Hi Eggn2Noke and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

I need to get you to move HijackThis to a folder of its own so that nothing gets deleted by mistake

1. Right click in an empty space on your desktop.

2. From the Menu, click New, then Folder and a folder will appear on your desktop.

3. Name the folder HJT

4. Drag the current HijackThis icon from your desktop into the new Folder that was just created.

5. Now, run the program and post a fresh HJT log for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

We seem to be having a bit of a problem getting HijackThis into a safe place in its own folder. This should do the trick.

1. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

2. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

I'm very sorry for the trouble. I downloaded Hijackthis into the Program Files folder so it is now in a folder of its own along with the other folders in the Programs files. Again I am sorry for the trouble and really appreciate you helping me. I hope this log file is what you are looking for:

A. Please do a search for the following file: fau101b.exe and post back its complete path.

B. 1. Download "Registry Search Tool" (RegSrch.vbs) from HERE

2. Start it and paste in fau101b.exe.

3. Wait for it to complete the search, click ok at the prompt.

4. Then when wordpad opens, copy the text as a reply into this thread.

Regards,

Trevuren

I did a search for the file you requested and according to the search no file like that on exists, however I did run the registry search and here are the results:

REGEDIT4
; RegSrch.vbs © Bill James

; Registry search results for string "fau101b.exe " 12/3/2005 9:17:23 PM

; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad.
; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later.
; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.)

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won't run as it's supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
