I tto, was a victim of this program, but my daughter accidently downlaoded it. Thought it should be noted that I had no program files that contained meowclosessixth. Mine were "knobstart" . Once I removed them everything appears fine now. It took some searching to determine exactly which files to remove.

Below is my hijackthis log file. Are there any additional files I should delete?

Thanks

Your computer has a number of spyware programs that we need to remove. For more info on spyware see the Spyware Tools link in my signature.

Let's start with a couple of free programs:
CWShredder is the first to run. Here's why: If a CoolWebSearch variant is indeed running on your system, it may actually prevent you from running spyware scans. It is smart enough to detect efforts to detect it, and stop them. Download CWShredder to your desktop or other location. Close all browser windows, double click the CWShredder icon to run, then click the Fix -> button. When finished, reboot and run Spybot Search & Destroy.

Spybot Search & Destroy Download and install. Start Spybot S&D using the "Spybot-S&D (easy mode)" link from your Start menu . Click the Search for updates button, if any are found then click the Download Updates button. After all updates are downloaded, click the Check for problems button. When the scan is complete, place a check next to anything marked in red, then click the Fix selected problems button. You may need to run Spybot S&D multiple times to remove all infections.

When finished, Reboot your computer. Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<

Hi again Island-Girl,

I see what appears to be a LOP infection (which Spbot S&dD and Ad-aware may not be able remove), but I'm afraid I don't have much time to review your log closely right now, and I won't be able to post a reply until tomorrow. <_<

Please move Hijack This to its own folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This allows access to backups if needed.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msrexe.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoUpdater] "C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bash City] C:\PROGRA~1\KNOBDA~1\FILETRANSSIGN.exe
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Delete this folder in bold:
C:\Program Files\KNOBDA... <- this folder (name has been abbreviated)

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log.

Hello again,

I could not find the file: C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate......
Also could not find C:\Program Files\Knobd.......

Deleted the rest and here is my new log.

Does it look OK, or is there more work to do?

thanks

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster. It's free, will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. It also places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will impair attempts to infect your system. More info and download is available at:

Hello,

When I run Hijackthis the following file does not appear in the list:
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe
It only appears in the log. There are about twice as many files listed in the log as what actually appear in the Hijackthis main window.

I tried manually searching for the above file, but could not find any reference to it anywhere. Even tried "searching".

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Strange <_< Try booting in safemode (by tapping the F8 key and selecting safemode from the menu). Run Hijack and see if it appears then.

I have been working in safe mode all along. Will try again after this weekend.

thanks for the assistance. Now I only have about 3 windows of pop-up ads open at one time. That I can live with, but not for long.
