CD Burner Won't Recognize Blank CDs

Odd thing is, some cds it will read, others it won't. Most of the time the reading light just flashes on, and off.
Most recent example, I put in a blank Memorex CD-RW, and it doesn't read at all. Light just flashes on, and off. Once in a while it'll do the same thing with my Sims 2 University CD. I'm not quite sure how to update the driver since I don't have a cd or anything, and the drive came bundled with my dell (It's a TEAC CD-W224E) and it's been doing this for a while.

Ideas?

I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that I have the nasty Sony XCP stuff on my computer...
