Dear GeeksToGo,

I came here last week asking for help in regards to a Winfixer problem I had with my own computer. Now it seems that my father is having a terrible time with his computer and I wondered if perhaps it was the same issue. His computer runs at a snail's pace, and often reboots itself or turns itself off entirely. I know there may be many things wrong with his system, as he has never had a firwall, or even decent antivirus protection. Below you will find his HiJackThis log, I sincerely hope you can help. Thank you so much for your time and effort.

Sincerely,
Amanda

Welcome back to the site Amanda. :tazz:

I'm afraid it's not good news.

These are just some of the infections the machine has been seriously compromised with:

http://www.sophos.co.../w32rbotuh.html
http://www3.ca.com/s...s.aspx?id=39437
http://www.sophos.co.../w32rbotxg.html
http://www3.ca.com/s...s.aspx?id=39581

Before we continue, have a look at the links above and then read the information in the links below.

Show your dad the info as well so that he can decide what is right for him.

When Should I Re-Format? How Do I Re-Install?

How Do I Handle Possible Identity Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud.

If this was my machine, I'd format and reinstall the Operating System and start afresh safe in the knowledge that my machine and personal details were safe and secure once more.

If you're not in a position to to format and reinstall, do an online virus scan at Panda ActiveScan
  • Once on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button and then the Check Now button on the nex screen.
  • Enter your details in the required fields.
  • Then click the big Scan Now button.
  • Allow the Active X component to install and download the necessary files. (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
  • Upon scan completion, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Then come back to this thread and post a fresh HijackThis log with the Panda results please and we'll take it from there.
