Trying to Use my Cell Phone as a Modem

Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to get my cell phone to work as a modem for my laptop. I found insturctions on-line, and I followed them, but my computer installs my phone as a virtual serail port instead of a modem. I remember it installing as a modem once before, (I've had to refomrat my hard drive since then), so I don't know why its different this time. Any suggestions? I have the Samsung a650 on the verizon wireless network.
