my java isnt working

My problem is that everytime i go to aolhometown easy designer it wont load. It says, i have an out of date java virtual machine or my internet explore is lower then 4.0. I talked to AOL and download the latest version on both of them and it still didnt fix the problem. Now when i go into the control panel to add/remove programs, then go to set progams access and defaults it will let me change things but as soon as i close the menu thing it goes right back to what it was set as before. Im very frustrated and dont know what i am doing i just bought this comp. in Feb. and im having alot of problems with it, If you could help it would be greatly apprecatied. Thanks <_<

There's two version of Java. One from Sun, and one from Microsoft. We recommend the Sun version as it more stable and secure.
