apologies for initial vagueness, info is second hand. A friend of a friend cannot get his laptop to boot correctly. Stops with just screen background and message: ' Explorer unable to locate component. Application failed spdocvw.dll not found. Re-installing application may fix problem.'

Does anyone know what app spdocvw.dll references.

I will try to get more info. before he reformats the hard disk as someone else suggested.
