Hi,
I was infected with the spamforo trojan (mm.exe, mm.pid).
After removing it, I noticed in the firewall log (Norton Internet Security) that every 5 seconds IE keeps trying to access

http://207.150.170.7...b6f47c095602fec
http://207.150.170.7...02fec&verid=108

so I blocked all access to that address in the firewall.
Been trying to figure out what triggers this, but couldn't find anything so far.

Can someone please take a look at it?

Thanks

From 3 day no reply

I did run a Panda ActiveScan afterwards, which found and removed the following:

Incident Status Location

Virus:Trj/Agent.AXM Disinfected Operating system
Virus:Trj/Agent.AXM Disinfected Operating system
Adware:adware/savenow Not desinfected Windows Registry
Virus:Trj/Agent.AXM Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEFilter.dll

Virus:Trj/Agent.AXM Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\Service.exe
Virus:W32/Bagle.N.worm Disinfected Personal Folders\Inbox\SPAM: Warning about your e-mail account.\Gift.zip

Attempts to contact the ip-address have stopped, but I wonder if more cleanup is required.

Before starting any cleaning steps, please disable the Microsoft Anti-Spyware real-time protection:
  • Right-click on the Microsoft Anti-Spyware tray icon by your clock (it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye).
  • Click on "Security Agents Status".
  • Click on "Disable real-time protection".
Next, open Microsoft Anti-Spyware.
  • Click on the Options menu, then Settings.
  • Select "Real Time Protection" from the left column.
  • Uncheck "Enable (MSAS) Security Agents" and "Enable real-time spyware threat protection".
  • Click the Save button.
Finally, Right-click on the MSAS tray icon, select "Shutdown Microsoft Antispyware", and click "Yes" in the dialog that comes up.

Ok, that log looks fine. Can you update your Ewido, run a complete scan and post the log for me to review?

Ok, let's try another. Please run a free online scan with Kaspersky AntiVirus (works only with MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher).
Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button (NOT "Kaspersky File Scanner").
  • In the new window that opens, click the "Accept" button to accept the user agreement, install the ActiveX control, and download the program.
  • When you get the Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the "Install" button.
  • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button lights up with a green arrow, click it.
  • Click on the "Scan Settings" button, and in the next window select the "extended" database, and click Ok.
  • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window, and post the text in kavscan.txt in your next reply.

While Bearshare isn't technically spyware, it installs spyware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I highly recommend you fix this. There are safer programs you could use, without the risk Bearshare presents. Please see this article. You can see this spyware in the Kaspersky scan results above.

The Bearshare spyware didn't bother me as much, since I have it blocked with Norton's Internet Security (or will that not stop embedded spyware from accessing the net?)

In any case, I will look into the ones recommended in the article.
Better safe then sorry.

Once again, many thanks for your assistance.

Everything seems to be okay now.
Outlook appears to be very slow (sending/receiving) but that's probably to do with my provider.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. :tazz:
  • On a regular basis, please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.
  • In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:
    • Ad-Aware SE. A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.
    • Spybot-Search & Destroy. A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features. You have this installed currently. Please keep it updated and run it on a regular basis.
    • SpywareBlaster. A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.
    • SpywareGuard. A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.
Keeping these programs up-to-date and running them regularly can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.
  • Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here.
  • Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.
Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. :)
