Hi. I've been having many problems with WinFixer2005 and other things lately. It's 1:35 A.M. so excuse me if I make any kind of mistakes or leave any obvious things out. Besides my computer being overall sluggish, I've also been receiving some "naughty" popups lately. I have seen no traces of pornography but I wouldn't count on that because this is the "family" computer so I wouldn't doubt there being atleast some of that activity in the past. I've taken the last 3 hours or so trying to follow the guide on 'what you must do before posting a HJK log'. I have ran scans using Ad-Aware, Spybot, and SpySweeper. I've also used 'CleanUp' and CWShredder. Ad-aware and Spybot, which I ran before SpySweeper found about 30 traces of spyware and then SpySweeper found a Trojan-- something with Conhook. I've been haveing a problem with WinFixer for a while so I'm suspecitng I have Trojan.Vundo. I'm hoping that anyone will be able to help with just the slowness of my computer and the popups with my log file. Here it is:

BTW, the only things that I could think of at the moment that could lead to spyware is AIM and a music downloader Ares. I use each quite a bit so I would like to know if either could be a serious problem. Also--whenver I reboot my PC the Windows send report thing comes up with an error with 'Generic Host Process for Win32'. Thankyou in advance.

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite the dreaded Virtumonde (Vundo B) infection. ConHook is the file that downloads Vundo, and normally it disappears. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

Firstly could you please disable Spy Sweeper from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything.

Please open Spybot S & D, and turn off Resident Teatimer. Do this by clicking Mode at the top of the screen, choose Advanced Mode then Tools and then Resident and unchecking Teatimer. It will hinder our attempts to clear out some files that need to be removed.

When your PC has been declared clean, please only enable one of those two programmes to run in real-time. All others should be used as “on demand” scanners. Having more than one antispyware programme running in real-time will cause slowness and even conflicts.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.

  Press enter to continue....
  
  

• At this point press enter once.
  
• Next you will see:
  

  Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
  and then press enter:

  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyx.dll
• Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  
• Next you will see:
  

  Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
  staff then press enter:

• At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\xybeg.*
• Press Enter to continue with the fix.
• The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programmes menu).
Set the programme up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the programme.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click YES.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log from normal mode and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.
