My PC is slow as sh*t. I cant do anything without it crashing or something, popups appear even before i open my browser, my browser takes about 5mins average to open and i have 1meg broadband but it is about as fast as dial-up because my PC is that [bleep] slow!

My computer has 256Mb RAM, Intel Celeron Processor 800MHz, 9.54Gb hard drive with 3.06Mb free space, ive tryed deleting music but my sister downloads it as fast as i delete it! The internet is so slow that i could find the information quicker in a library and the popups are imense (like 100 per 30 mins)

Ive tryed all manner of registry doctor/clean-up programs and spyware killer/doctor programs but nothing works! How do i make this computer run like it used to do? I need it for my job but i cant do [bleep] on it because it is that [bleep] slow! Thanks in advance for any help guys!

Peace

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, click more options, click clean up restore points

Click start, run, type prefetch, press enter, click edit, select all, right click any file, click delete, confirm, reboot

Run disc defragmenter from system tools

Install shoot the messenger

http://grc.com/stm/s...hemessenger.htm

Run housecall, choose complete scan

http://housecall60.t...orp.asp?id=scan

Click start, run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD and get a blue progress bar, reboot when the bar goes

Get the trial of Tune Up 2006 here

Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run disc clean up then registry clean up then click optimize to run reg defrag, which needs a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

If it still runs slow

Possibly your HD is badly fragmented due tp frequent downloading and deleting of music files etc. Run a disk clean up and the disk defragmenter to improvethe performance. Keith's given you all the steps, here are some links on slow system troubleshooting which u cud check out if you want.
