No connection window

When i am disconnected to the internet or just disconnect, I get a popup window stating that I am not connected to the internet and that I am offline. Inside this window I get two options, one asking to retry or cancel. I have run all spyware software unimagineable and even tried Hijackthis, and still keep getting this annoying popup. Can anybody help? Thanks

I have a lot of software that checks for any updates available. is there a way of finding which one it is ?
