On my computer today my background went black and it said that i had spyware on my computer and i could get it solved...my anti-virus wasn't seeing it and i couldn't find anything that would fix my computer that i didn't have to buy. And when i restarted my computer i would get to the log in screen and when i would go to log in i would get this message

"Application Failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on Ok to terminate "

and then all i would see is the background after clicking ok

i can get into my computer through safe mode but how do i fix this problem!!?? someone please HELP!!

When you get the desktop background, can you press ctrl + alt + delete keys to get task manager, if so, click file, new task, type explorer.exe then press enter

If not, boot the PC and keep tapping F8 until you get options, choose safe mode with command prompt, type sfc /scannow then press enter

Spyware had long zapped your computer before you clicked that "error"

Generally, spyware will install itself and give you multiple pop-ups that tell you have spyware on your computer. When you click the "ok" you are falling victim to their trap, and most likely putting more junk on your screen. Since it seems to have taken over your regular user, get on another computer, and download the following apps:

Microsoft Anti-spyware

SpyBot

After you've downloaded those two apps, put them on a CD or other media and start your broken computer in safe-mode. To do this, press F8 repeatedly while the computer is turning on.

Install these programs in safemode, and then run full scans with them, after it removes things, boot back up into normal mode and try again. You still should try Keith's suggestions for repairing windows.

Good luck!

I am having the same problem...

Background:

A few days ago Dec 26 at 1:00 AM i turned on my computer and my background was changed to something to the effect of....

"SPYWARE HAS BEED DETECTED ON YOUR COMPUTER" and an 'anti-spyware' program called WinHound began running. I know i never downloaded it and such. So i did the Add-Remove programs and removed WinHound and i found some threads on the internet on how to deal with other trojans that may have infected on my computer. Everything was fine untill i restarted my computer the it gave me "Application failed to initialize correctly. Excpetion 0xc0000005." Have followed the same steps highlighted here and still have had no luck.
