(As reported in the Dec 2005 issue of Maximum PC, page 10)
PSP (Play Station). Sony has been aggressively updating the firmware (A chip imbedded inside the unit) on its PlayStation Portable game systems ever since the initial release of the device last March. Many people found that they could run other software programs on their PSP, such as game emulators originally developed for other gaming systems. Well Sony will have none of that. Anything you play on their PSP had better be something they sell or have a license fee too. So what they have been doing is building patches into their games, once you run one of their new games, software in the game automatically installs a firmware update. These new games will not play without the update, so there is no way around it. Basically Sony is saying you don’t own their PSP, you’re just ‘renting’ it. They own it and will tell you what you can and can not do with it.

Just who does Sony think they are? They are also behind the up coming Blu-ray DVD hardware that will be similar, so don't you dare but a 'back-up' copy of a DVD in that machine!
And they were the brains behind the XCP that they put on some 52 music CD's titles (Which the users had no idea that this was happening), that then let hackers take over or attack peoples home computers.

I'm never buying anything with SONY on it until they stop this crap!

They are kinda crap like that, ill still probably by the new 20gig walkman though since the hardware is excellent and leaps and bounds ahead of the rest. Sony are a pain when they work out they cant dictate to consumers they will become the MS of the hardware world and have themselves a very nice stragle hold on the market. Mind you they probably wont work it out so we will just have to figure out ways to stop them intruding on us.

Sony has had its ups and downs.. especially with their antipiracy movement on their music cds.

But back in gaming, ps3 is gonna own all.

Sony has been sued many times in the past for trying to copyright someone elses product and they'll never learn.
