I am new to posting and if this topic has been covered previously, I was unable to find it. So if my post is redundant, please forgive me!

OK, now that I have said that, let me get to the subject. I purchased a win xp system which came with a Lexmark 1150 all-in-one printer/fax/scanner. About six weeks ago the print function abruptly stopped working, although it would still scan and fax. I uninstalled the printer and attempted to reinstall it. I would get various messages dealing with the print spooler and the print monitor being unknown. After intense searching for help over the internet with no success, (and several more failed reinstall attempts) I finally surrendered and bought a HP all-in-one.

However, I just couldn't toss out what used to be a nice little printer so I continued to occasionally check various keywords and found that more than just a few people were having this same problem. The posts stretched back to 2003 - with no solution. Then, just yesterday, I found one post that suggested that afflicted Lexmark owners try going to: Start/settings/control panel/administrative tools/services. So I did, and scrolled down to "LexBce Server". Once there I right clicked on it and changed the setting from manual to automatic.

After restarting the pc (have no idea if this is necessary, but figured it couldn't hurt) I put the Lexmark install cd in the drive and the Lexmark 1150 installed just like the day I bought it. It now works perfectly. The reason I am writing this is in the hope that it might help someone with the same problem get up and running with only minor rending of their garments!
