I had a woman call me who has an HP Pavillion pentium 4. She bought an iPOD and installed the software. She then called me to tell me that her CD and DVD drives do not work at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them, nothing. I re loaded XP pro on her computer, and had to do a regisstry edit during the XP install, (I did not even know that you could do this) and the CD and DVD now show up OK and work, however, iTunes now says that it is no longer the default CD burner for this computer because the registry has been changed. Question: How can I install the ipod on this PC without going through all of this again? Sorry for the LONG POST.

as a workaround, when you install a iTunes and loose control of the cd-rw/dvd, etc., drives, the problem is usually with gearsec.exe not recognizing them. go to the Gear website, and get the updated drivers... at least this is rumoured to fix the problem :-) Dispite the hype, there's a ton of problems using an Apple product on a Windows computer
