Lately my Excel XP has been doing some weird stuff. I have made several spreadsheets that have been working with no problems. Nowall of them and new spreadsheets will not allow me to format a cell using the format tab - number tab - special - phone number which would make the numbers appear in the phone number format --- ie. (555) 555-5555 this has caused a major problem in many of the spreadsheets that I have been using. Now if I keyed the numbers, 5555555555, I will get (5) 555-5556 and at the top of the sheet where it shows what you typed in it reads 55555555.55 for the numbers 7172567789 I would get (7) 172-5678 and at the top of the sheet where it shows what you typed in it reads 71725677.89
Also if I key in any cell a single number, ie., 9, I get 0.09 and it does not matter how I format the cell.
:tazz: Does anybody know what is going on and how to correct it?

A similar thing happened to our excel. All of a sudden it stopped auto calculating. The formula would be there, but of you changed a number in one of the cells, the calculation would not change, unless you went up and hit the calculation button. What is going on and how do I fix it?

One thing I would look at is which time zone or region are you set to. Sometimes when people accidently change the timezone or region to something other than US time zones weird things happen. The other reason why I say that is the format that seems to come up seems like an Asian or European telephone number.

Just a thought...

First off check to see if your screen says calculate in the lower left corner (just above the start button) if so... Go to tools from the menu bar, go to options, click on the calculation tab then make sure the dot is in front of automatic. That should fix the problem.

cheers,
