Stuck in Sleep Mode

My friend has a Compaq Presario that seems to be stuck in sleep mode. He has moved the ouse around and hit some keys on the keyboard but nothing will wake it up. I'm sorry it is actually the monitor that is in sleep mode. His Pc has a green light. I know there have been similar posts but I don't fell they apply. If needed I will try to post addl specs but I'm not with him right now so I will have to call him.
