HELP! My computer was working perfectly fine when all of a sudden the screen wen black and restarted itself. It could not start up and asked for the reboot disk so I inserted it. It asked if I wanted to install Windows or repair it, so I chose repair. My computer came to the conclusion that it could not start and had this message:

"Windows could not start because the file is missing or corrupt:

<windows root>system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I am running Windows XP and I don't have a Windows XP CD because my computer came with it already installed. I just had the restore disk (which I mentioned above) that did not seem to work. Every solution I have read on the internet has required me to actually be able to boot up my computer, which I cannot do, not even in Safe Mode. Can anybody help me? Have I lost everything that was on my computer???

Thank you,

Ashley
