WOW! How astute! Johnny Jigsaw nailed it. I never even mentioned the Google Toolbar. But it was installed and the minute I removed it, the title appeared normally. This also taught me that the HKLM key with string value = "Window Title" has no effect. It is the string value = "Window Title" under HKCU that changes the Window title as the Microsoft documentation suggests. All my machines that work also have the Google toolbar installed. So I re-installed the Google toolbar and the Window title still works as it should. Apparently the problem only surfaces when doing an upgrade and the machine has the Google Toolbar installed. Thank you very much Johnny Jigsaw. Problem is resolved.

If so, try uninstalling it.

hey it worked. Uninstall google toolbar or just untick it from the menu and your bar should come back. If you reinstall Google TB after removing it, it doesnt come back, well not yet anyway thanks Johnny Jigsaw.

I just wonder how this has happened because i am very careful with my internet, has something changed google toolbar or could it be something to do with a MS update ?

Hey..
Uinstalling Google Toolbar helped in my case.. I dont know computers have all kind of wierd problems these days.. Other day I had a problem of blinking hour-glass..Got resolved when I uninstalled and reinstalled my McAfee Security suite..

Yes..You are right.. McAfee keeps eating your memory and processor..Also reduces battery uptime and increases boot time.There is substantial difference in my computer's performance..But i m still using it as I got 1gig ram and 1.8Ghz Centrino processor and the software came free with my computer....There is really little security u need if u use internet sensibly.. You really do not need firewall, privacy protector, spam killer.. and other things.. Just plain anti-virus and some adware software suffices in most cases..

Ive been informed that AVG has built in spyware. Basically because its free, it has process that slow down your resources for either there developement or advertising. I dont know this for a fact however. I do find Norton corp one of the better virus protectors. Runs real time in the background, no questions, just does its job.

to my knowledge...AVG has absolutely no spyware in it...and i have not heard any reports of such...i could be wrong...but..i'm pretty sure i'm not

One of my customer's had the single letter problem, but when the "autray.exe" process was terminated she didn't have the problem anymore.

HA i had the same problem, and found the easiest solution... goto internet options... programs.... and disable the yahoo and google toolbars. No more problem here

That fixed it. I removed google toolbar and the problem went away. Looks like this site didn't like my "clever acronym" too. ;-)

Removing the Google tool bar worked for me as well.

Then I re-installed Gtb and things still worked... until I closed all ie windows and started ie again.
Simply hiding the toolbar worked (the second time around) but it needs to stay hidden.

Is this a scam by microsoft to cut into google/yahoo's business or is it just microsoft incompetence?
