Hello, I am running a Toshiba Satellite P35-S609 and had a crash two days ago. Ended up having to reformat the harddrive. Now my computer is running, but it is very choppy. Simple things like moving a window around drags the screen. I am not sure why it is running like this, I haven't put anything on the computer yet.

ok...all of those yellow ? are devices who's drivers are not installed...right click on each one and select update driver and see if that works

New problem .. actually, the same problem I reformated for. My computer froze when I would get to desktop, with everything loading, and I could only acess the computer through safe mode. I was told it was software related, and so I reformated. It worked for a while, and then I downloaded all the drivers I was missing, it worked, and now is freezing at the same point prior to the reformat. As soon as the desktop shows up, I can move the mouse, and then the START bar freezes, leaving me to move the mouse but not be able to click on anything or open anything.

Any ideas?

ok go to www.memtest86.com and download the program...it will let you create a bootable floppy to test you ram...go ahead and boot to that and test your ram..prefereably one stick at a time

HijackThis download that and unzip it to it's own folder (somethin like c:\hijackthis)..run the program and click on the "non of the above...i know what i'm doing" button (says something close to that)...then click config > misc tools > click both radio buttons next to the "generate startuplist log" button..then click generate startuplist log....post the contents of that text file

well..i was hoping to see some kind of funky startup items...but at first glance i don't....i'll take a better look

when you boot into normal mode...and it "locks up" what happens when you try ctrl alt del....can you get to task manager?

I have about 10 seconds of control over the computer, meaning I can begin to open a program, close out of AIM, and even get my task manager. However, as soon as it opens, I loose control. Start menu freezes and I get an hour glass. At some points I can then close out of task manager (cannot do anything inside it) or just move the mouse around. So the computer isnt frozen, only the start menu is and any actions I try to do causes a lock up.

something is hanging at startup....i'm gonna get someone else to come and give me some extra eyeballs on that start up list....in the mean time....do start run msconfig

click on selective startup then uncheck the Load startup items box...then try to get into normal mode
