I did the speeDefrag and left it to run until the computer shut down. I then did as instructed in safe mode but the defragmenter still had the same files that would not defragment. I dont know if there is another way to remove them . Thanks, Susan

If SpeeDefrag ran until it shut the PC down then at least the drive is defragmented, (almost)

It now depends on the number and size of the files and how they affect the running of the PC, as to how you want to go about it

What error messages do you get now if you use search to locate them and then try to delete them

If I try to delete via %temp% it says " Cannot delete file >It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. Under details it says attributes hidden.

I have removed all files from %temp% with unlocker. I did a virus scan and it stuck again. I then did a defrag and the files that could not be deleted were as follows.

2 Fragments 638MB Documents & settings/susan

8 fragments 5MB System vol inform\_{285B3

28 fragments 5MB System vol inform\_{285B3

28 fragments 17MB System vol inform\_{285B3

6 fragments 17MB 8 fragments vol inform\_{285B3

I was sure it would work this time although there seem to be some files still which are left. Hope you can advise, Thanks , Susan

I clicked on my computer which brought up icons local disc c and my documents. etc. So after right clicking my documents, it allowed me to scan with ewido, (downloaded from malware forum) which scanned through my documents ok. Nothing found

Is your my documents folder 638MB in total, I hope that isn't the size of the fragments

I will defrag again and copy and paste the report as am not sure about the size of the fragments.

Can you run diskeeper lite (don't worry, you can offload all the things you added trying to sort this when it is done :tazz: )

http://www.majorgeek...Lite_d1207.html

This will probably report the same after you run it, but run it straight away again and it should reduce the number of fragments.

The people I am going to ask are US based so will probably be on later
