hi all nice forum been a member for ages but never posted before so hi!

im looking at a new game for crimble battfield 2 ! missus got it for me, however
ive been playing the demo until now and unless im on low settings on my in game video settings its laggy at best lol so..
what would be the best graphics cards for me to be looking at for improved gaming?
im looking at between £50 - £80 (or good ole e-bay) any my system is :-

The fastest video card for your budget would be a ati x700 256mb. It has 9.6 GB/s memory bandwith and is faster than both the geforce 6200 and fx5600. I recommend a faster video card that the x700 though to get a better gaming experience. More memory is a must for battlefield 2. Battlefield 2 eats up your computers memory and 512mb really isnt enough, its decent but not quite enough.

I recommend getting atleast an ati x800 of some type. An XL, Gt or GTO. Then another 512mb sick of memory and you will be set.

Looks like it is AGP at first glance, you can check by using cpu z or you can take a look usually a long brown slot above the PCI slots.

Battlefield 2 is ok, it looks good for a game with such large maps, if you want to play BF2 make sure you have a good internet connection as well otherwise the game is kinda sucky offline. If you are into BF2 youll like the new enemy territory coming out in january now thats what i call a pretty game.

ps reading an older thread ive run cpu-z and come up with

AGP version 3 transfer rate 3 max supported 8 size 128mb side band enabled
is this ok ? i was looking at ati x800 and they are not cheap if i were to get one , would it fit? and would it "do the biz"? cheers

As far as i know agp version 3 has a link width of 8x which is what you are looking for, and thats the best AGP can go to, cpu-z should tell you the link width under mainboard in the graphical interface section.

The new standard for interface that has replaced AGP is pci express it is twice the speed and can provide the extra power needed by new cards.

If you can get a x800GT those arent quite so expensive and wont run it full out like a big daddy x800 xould but it will do not bad for itself and your system would die at max settings, your cpu is a bit slow and you need some more ram for a game like that. I would say if you want to play new games the way they are supposed to be you save up and put a system together yourself when you can afford it, £600 to £700 quid gets you a more than adequate PC these days.
