Can anyone help me out with this one. This is the second time in a month that one of my computers has displayed 'NTDLR' is missing. There is no floppy disk in the a: drive.

Last time I had to completely reinstall a fresh copy of XP and lost everything.

Is there a fix for it rather than going the re-install route again for the second time ?

Thanks in advance.

Boot up with the XP CD in the drive and let Setup run. Go past the "C" and "R" repair options by presssing Enter just as if you're doing a clean install and you'll eventually get an option to "Repair an existing installation". That's the one you want. If it asks about formatting you've gone wrong, so start over.

You'll get to keep your existing apps & settings, but you need to re-install SP2, Windows Updates & any unsigned drivers afterwards. NOTE: Be aware that you'll lose any protection from Blaster / Sasser type worms. Don't go online without a firewall, whether the built in Windows one or 3rd party.

D...
The repair option in Win XP didn't work as it went through its routine and when it tried to boot up got the same message 'ntldr' is missing. I tried using the recovery console option and went into dos and did a copy of the ntldr from the xp cd to the computer as well as copy of the ntdetect.com to the computer but still no cigar.

I don't know any other option but to re-install a fresh xp o/s ....

This is the second time it's happened and I am perplexed as to why it has happened the 2nd time in less than a month.

Any suggestions or comments ? :tazz:

Appreicate your advice,

Do you have multiple harddrives?

Boot into the Recovery Console and execute the fixboot command

fixboot c:

(if you have one drive or if you have two drives, what is Windows installed on)
