Mouse freezes in SAFE mode

Hi:

I am trying to scan for malware and am unable to use the mouse in SAFE mode (the mouse freezes after the system boots into SAFE mode). I am running WIn Me. The C:Restore folder has a ton of Temp files that need to be deleted, but I am unable to delete the contents and I figured booting into SAFE mode would allow me to dump this folder's contents. That's how I found out that the mouse freezes in SAFE mode.
