pioneer dvd burner doesnt work with usb 2

my burner works on my old computer with usb 1 but not usb 2... the cd that came with it doesnt detect the drive but i can read and erase a dvd just not burn one.. it is an external burner, would it have anything to do with the case that houses the drive? is it possible to buy a better case for it?
