Compaq Presario Wont Shut Down

I recently bought a compaq presario SR1619UK. At the start it worked perfectly but the past few weeks everytime i go to shut down. The computer closes all the programs but then freezes when the the blue screen comes up sayin windows is shutting down. Has anyone else experienced this problem or has anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this problem. My computer is on windows xp
