Help me guys!!

I have recently bought an MP3 player off ebay, an unknown/no name brand that was shipped from China. It is similar to a thumb drive, but requires a AAA battery. All worked great until I attempted to clear the memory in it by using XP's format tool (under "my computer", I right clicked and "format")

Now, when I turn on the player, it says "error-reformat" and shuts down immediately. When it is not turned on, my computer cannot see it. Any assistance or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, that thread doesn't help much. It is more tailored towards recovery of deleted photos from memory cards. The way this MP3 player works is, that once it is turned on and inserted in the USB port, it is like any other memory stick or thumb drive. My problem is that since I attempted reformatting, the player immediately shuts down, so the computer never sees it. Do you know of any secret to reformatting these without using the computer? Such as a strong magnet? I am reaching here, but will attempt anything. I have been using it for less than a month.

The same practices apply to all flash memory devices. I once formated a compact flash card connected to a USB reader. The camera wouldn't recognize it, and couldn't format it. I was able to use recovery software to rescue the card using the USB reader.

However, if your system isn't recognizing it as being a USB storage device you may be out of luck. Maybe contact the mfg?
