Hi Trigger1813,

atdialler.exe is part of the Freeserve Connection Kit. It changes the dial-up for Freeserve AnyTime if access problems are encountered.

Run hijackthis again, click Scan. Check the boxes next to these entries. Then close all windows except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to 'Fix checked'.

That's not what's causing your email problems though. I noticed you have ZoneAlarm installed (or it was installed at one time) and Avast. Are you still using Zonealarm and if so, have you checked the settings in Zonealarm to make sure they are correct? If you don't use it, uninstall it through Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Same goes for Avast. Check the E-mail scanner settings if you are using it and uninstall it if your not.

Ok, now I'm confused. :tazz:

I have an even bigger problem now!! my partner was on the laptop and some pop up box came up about a virus and she says the laptop crashed!!

What do you mean crashed?? Can you be more specific?

Tried everything to get it back on but there was a disk read error, so I had 2 format and reinstall windows!!

If you had to format and reinstall, why does your log look identical to the original log before the format and reinstall? ;)

As for the messenger service pop-ups, click Start > Run. Type in services.msc and click OK. Scroll down to Messenger and double click it. Change Startup type from Automatic to Disabled, then reboot your computer. That will stop those types of popups.

Please answer the questions in this post and my previous post so I can help you efficiently .

well it didnt 'crash' it just wouldnt restart, said disk read error on startup, so i put in the recovery disks and they wiped laptop clean.

I then installed most of the software i already had, thats why logs look almost identical.

As for the messenger popups, it is not actually anything to do with msn messenger. it just says messenger service at the top of the pop up box.

an example of a pop up message is,

"IRENE invits you 2 www.? (cant remember website)

COME AND PLAY"

if that helps!

anything in my log i need 2 fix?

Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. :tazz:

That messenger service I asked you to disable has nothing to do with Microsoft's MSN Instant Messenger. It will disable the messenger service which will stop those annoying popups from coming in.

What about ZoneAlarm? Are you using that?? Your log looks clean but are you still having the same problems you stated in your first message?

I'm glad we could help. :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

Thanks to PGPhantom for this canned speech.
