Hi I recently got a whole bunch of Trojans, spyware, and adware but I think I got rid of them. But my desktop wallpaper won't show or anything it keeps having a white or grey background when I move my mouse and when I right click on my mouse all that says is Select All, View Sources, Encoding, Print, Refresh, and Properties. =\ I don't know whats going on. I used Webroot SpySweeper and to me I think deleted everything. I've scanned it a whole bunch of times and nothing comes up but cookies.

So wanna help this newbie out =]?

What do you get if you press ctrl + alt + delete keys together, if you get task manager, click file then new task, type explorer.exe and press enter

If you have the drivers for the video adapter, re-install them

I don't see how that helped me? all it did was bring me to my documents. Nothing changed my wallpaper, it's still the same.

Obviously you didn't get task manager

If you have the taskbar

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter to replace the system files, you need the XP CD.

System File Check will show an on screen blue progress bar, reboot when the bar goes

Re-install the video adapter drivers if you can download

Safe mode with networking will allow you to download the drivers but make sure the firewall and anti virus are running

You can borrow a same version (as was originally installed) XP CD to run the system file check

Run this if you can download

Get the trial of Tune Up 2006 here

Tune Up 2006 Trial

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete.

Run Tune Up disc clean up then registry clean up then click optimize to run reg defrag, which needs a reboot

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

These are suggestions for making the most of the free trial

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection (without an internet connection if applicable) from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

(Skip this if you do not connect to the internet with this PC) After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor
