Recently my computer has been giving me terrible problems. I can use any program or shortcut on my desktop or in my start menu, but when I try to open any sort of folder-- including My Computer, the Recycle Bin, My Documents or literally any other folder at all-- my computer freezes and says that the Dr. Watson Debugger has had a problem and needs to send an error report.

I have seen posts of this problem elsewhere on this forum, and thus I will try the suggestions given to Drafter from Coach's Wife in a different posting.

Here is my hijackthis log.

Welcome to Geeks to Go! :tazz:

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

First, we need to remove the pepper trojan. Download this file, run, and let terminate (it'll just blink briefly on your screen and won't appeared to have done much--this is normal): http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=18

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchBar.htm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cryptographic Service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tsubotnp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win32 System Spool] spoolsvc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] msupdatem.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SYSTRAY] C:\UNMT.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Explorer] RundII.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2ZQLKP#2WLSCTL] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Qxcn74j.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Win32 System Spool] spoolsvc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Machine] msupdatem.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Osus] C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\acao.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Xfvwv] C:\WINDOWS\System32\?hkntfs.exe

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files/folders (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tsubotnp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msupdatem.exe
C:\UNMT.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\RundII.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\windows.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Qxcn74j.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\acao.exe

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. ;)

It has been a while since I've last checked this site, so I do wonder if some things will be different from when you advised me to run this and make the corrections.

Here is the post-fix log. I couldn't find several of the things you indicated that I should look for. Also, I could not download the fixing file for the pepper trojan.

Since the big Dr. Watson cleanup, my computer has been doing quite well. I've definitely tried to crack down on the spyware, and I now run quite a number of programs to take care of it. They do help, though perfection is impossible.

The only real trouble I've had since the massive cleanup in February is that I've had to reinstall several programs and some of the Toshiba features since this is a laptop. However, these were all minor problems, and I have lost no data.

Thank you again and again.
