I have a new Gateway and have been trying to install the AOL Communicator program. Upon trying to open it gives an error message and shuts down. There is no such thing as competent AOL help so I finally decided to try another mail program. Tried to install Thunderbird and had the same issue. Looked up the error log and saw the two failures had the same fault module and address. The messages are:

Faulting application ac_mail.exe, version 1.3.309.1903, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00009784.
Faulting application thunderbird.exe, version 1.0.7.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00009784.

Anyone have a clue what to do?

I'm running XP Media SP2

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter to replace the system files, you need the XP CD.

System File Check will show an on screen blue progress bar, reboot when the bar goes

Thanks! I've discovered the wonderfully incompetent people at Gateway did not include my back up XP CD so I will have to wait til it gets here to do this. I appreciate your help, though.
