Lycos search engine page

Hi,

I have Internet Explorer, and I used to be able to type a URL and get to the proper website usually without needing to type "http://" or "www." included.

Now when I type something like "livejournal.com" or "freetranslation.com" in my address bar, it directs me to a Lycos search engine.

Examples
(http://search.lycos....ry=live journal)
(http://search.lycos....ree translation)

Now I have never made Lycos my default search engine, nor have I installed their searching software on my computer, though I did find Lycos in my Add/Remove programs and deleted it.
Also, I opened IE once to find that the Yahoo! toolbar apparantly installed itself on the computer as well.

I know this may be a minor problem, but is there anyway to prevent the redirecting to a Lycos page every time I don't type a URL correctly? It's getting to be extremely irritating. <_<

You need to run CWShredder. Download CWShredder to your desktop or other location. Close all browser windows, double click the CWShredder icon to run, then click the Fix -> button.

When finished, Reboot your computer. Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<

Okay, I installed and used CWShredder, but no problems seemed to surface. Nothing needed to be changed. Now, when I type in URLs without www. or http://, it still directs me to a Lycos search engine. Hmmmm. <_< :D

If everything seems to be working okay you can delete the Hijack This folder.

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.
