As the topic description says,
I'm wondering if windows can be installed on an extended partition.

With my learning on multi-boot setups, this is a question I dont want to spend hours researching... No sites easily on-hand seem to say anything about my question.

Thanks.

The short answer, yes. The long answer, depends on what you are attempting to do.

Extended partitions are non-bootable, but you could load windows 98 on the first, bootable partition, and Windows xp on the extended partition because with the standard Microsoft boot menu, the boot code will be on the first partition and just point to the second partition after booting.

Again, depends on how you set this up
