My taskbar buttons are disappearing when I minimize the applications! The start button, quick launch icons and the icons in the notification area (by the clock) are visible. If I remove the quick start toolbar, the taskbar disappears completely, except for a stub at the bottom. But I can't pull it back onto the desktop. Does anyone have any idea about what is going on?

Welcome to GeeksToGo! :tazz:

Try to go to Start/Run and type sfc /scannow (note the space). You will need to have your XP CD ready to run it.

Did you install any programs or remove any malware recently?

Edit: Follow Keith's advice first.

If you use the quick launch bar so you have the taskbar, right click the taskbar to check there is a tick for lock the taskbar, then go to toolbars to untick quick launch
