Single Song Transfering; is it possible?

Hey, I recently had my computer reformatted, and unfortunately my itunes was deleted along with half of my music. I know that if I plug my ipod into my computer, it will update and as a result, update zero songs onto my ipod, deleting all of my music. I will never have the same library again, so I don't want to plug it in, but I do want more songs on it. How do I upload new songs without deleting my entire library?

There are some programs that I have heard of that will take the music off of the ipod, try searching google with "getting music off ipod"
